An Alternative Way to Work Together

Service
Exchange

Hair for the People exists because we believe great hair belongs to everyone — not only to people with the right amount of money at the right time. This is one way we act on that belief.

"We don't think money is the only way to measure what something is worth."

What This Is

People are worth more than their income. Their skills, their time, their care — these things have value, and we want to recognise that.

If you have something to offer and you'd like to exchange it for colour services, we're genuinely interested. Not as a workaround or a favour — as a real way of working together.

This isn't a points system or a voucher scheme. It's a conversation between two people about what's fair.

Why We Do It

Hair for the People is a Durham business, built in Durham, for Durham. Community isn't a word we use lightly. It means something specific: that the people around us matter, that what they contribute matters, and that commerce doesn't have to be the only language we speak.

Some of our most valued relationships have started this way. We hope more will.

What We're Interested In

These are the kinds of things we'd genuinely welcome. The list isn't exhaustive — it's a starting point. If what you do isn't here, pitch us anyway.

Tell us what you do

This list is a guide, not a contract. We're open.

How It Works

Get in touch and tell us what you do and what you'd like. We'll agree a fair value on both sides — no minimum, no formula, just an honest conversation.

Trades are agreed individually. There's no standard rate, and we don't expect symmetry on the first exchange. What matters is that both sides feel it's right.

A Note on Honesty

Under HMRC rules, bartered services are treated as taxable income at fair market value — on both sides. We want to be transparent about that because we think you deserve to know.

It doesn't change our offer. It just means we're being straight with you, which is how we try to do everything.
